John Ross Bowie, known for his role in the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has been confirmed to join the upcoming spin-off series currently in the works. Announced in 2023, the new show is said to be inspired by the original series, which aired from 2007 to 2019. Bowie will reprise his role as Barry Kripke, the quirky colleague and rival of Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons.
According to reports, Bowie will be joined by other familiar faces from The Big Bang Theory, including Kevin Sussman (Stuart Bloom), Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler), and Lauren Lapkus (Denise), all returning to their original roles. The project faced delays due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes but is now moving forward.
Reacting to the news on Instagram, Bowie posted “Exciting news from @deadline… pardon me.. deadwine”, referring to Kripke’s speech impediment in the show.
The spin-off is set to premiere on the streaming platform Max in the U.S., marking the fourth installment in The Big Bang Theory universe. This follows the original series, the prequel Young Sheldon (2017-2024), and its spin-off, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which debuted in late 2023.
Even years after its finale, The Big Bang Theory remains a fan favorite. Recently, a clip featuring James Earl Jones went viral following the actor’s passing, with fans sharing it as a tribute. Additionally, original cast members like Kaley Cuoco (Penny) have expressed interest in being part of the new project. Cuoco stated she would “100 percent” want to participate, crediting the show for launching her career and expressing gratitude to the series and its creator, Chuck Lorre.
